UD Math hosts a successful conference of the American Mathematical Society
BodyText1
On September 29-30 the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware hosted the Fall Eastern Sectional Meeting of the American Mathematical Society. This year's event has been a very successful one with 294 registered talks (organized in 18 special sessions and two sessions for contributed papers) and with about 330 registered participants.
The talks took place in Gore Hall. The three plenary addresses (Leslie Greengard from the Courant Institute of NYU and the Flatiron Institute, Elisenda Grigsby from Boston College and Davesh Maulik from MIT) were given in Smith Hall.
UD had hosted the Spring Eastern Sectional AMS meeting back in 2005, when this was a relatively smaller event, given that attendance to this kind of meetings has doubled in the past decade. The local aspects of the organization this year were carried out by professors Philippe Guyenne and Y.J.Leung.
