As part of the Research in Mathematics Education book
series, this book describes how to conceptualize, conduct and
communicate research in education, focuses on developing a conceptual
understanding of the research process and informs early-career
researchers about the importance of performing solid research. An e-book version is available for free through the publisher’s website, and so far, this e-book has been downloaded over 60,000 times.

| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b;L0|#0e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b|Publications;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2023.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=278 | |

This book is an ideal introduction to mathematical reasoning and proof
techniques, building on familiar content to ensure comprehension of more
advanced topics in abstract algebra and real analysis with over 700
exercises as well as many examples. Readers will learn and practice
writing proofs related to new abstract concepts while learning new
mathematical content. The first task is analogous to practicing soccer
while the second is akin to playing soccer in a real match. The authors
believe that all students should practice and play mathematics. This is
Cioaba’s second book. His first, A first course in graph theory and combinatorics (second edition, coauthored with Ram Murty) was published by Springer/HBA in 2022 and is available for free on the UD campus.

| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b;L0|#0e59b718f-f2f3-4654-8986-5eea60d4f90b|Publications;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2023.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=273 | |

Jungck receives three honors | Jungck receives three honors | | 9/2/2022 4:00:00 AM
John Jungck,
professor of biological sciences and mathematical sciences, has
recently received three honors. The first is the 2022 Honorary Member
Award from the National Association of Biology Teachers. Regarding his
award, Jaclyn Reeves-Pepin, executive director of NABT, said, “…I am
thrilled that you are finally being recognized for your tremendous
efforts on behalf of biology educators at all levels. I can think of no
one else who has so completely changed the way biology is taught.” This
is the highest honor bestowed by NABT and recognizes individuals who
have achieved distinction in teaching, research and service to the
association. Jungck has also recently been selected as a 2023-2025
national speaker for Sigma Xi, the National Science Honor Society. In
2021, Jungck and his colleague Sam Donovan of the University of
Pittsburgh were awarded the Thomas Henry Huxley Award, presented for
the recognition and promotion of the development of high-quality
evolution education resources, by the Society for the Study of

Cioaba joins Editorial Board of 'Discrete Mathematics' | Cioaba joins Editorial Board of 'Discrete Mathematics' | | 4/2/2021 4:00:00 AM
Sebastian Cioaba, professor of mathematical sciences, has recently joined the Editorial Board of the journal Discrete Mathematics as an associate editor. The research areas covered by Discrete Mathematics include graph and hypergraph theory, enumeration, coding theory, block designs, the combinatorics of partially ordered sets, extremal set theory, matroid theory, algebraic combinatorics, discrete geometry, matrices, discrete probability and parts of cryptography. Items in the journal, which was established in 1971, include research articles (Contributions or Notes, depending on length) and survey/expository articles (Perspectives). Efforts are made to process the submission of Notes (short articles) quickly. The Perspectives section features expository articles accessible to a broad audience that cast new light or present unifying points of view on well-known or insufficiently-known topics. Discrete Mathematics also publishes occasional special issues containing selected papers. Such issues are fully refereed and adhere to the normal high standards of the journal. Cioaba also serves on the editorial boards of Linear Algebra and its Applications, Linear and Multilinear Algebra and The Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra.
| | Uncropped Vertical | | GP0|#99d961eb-8936-415c-9024-28a13cec289a;L0|#099d961eb-8936-415c-9024-28a13cec289a|Awards and Honors;GTSet|#0a3b6244-764a-4413-b2f1-4b4c15da868c | 2021.00000000000 | https://www.cas.udel.edu/Lists/ForTheRecord/DispForm.aspx?ID=74 | |
